Reiki
The Japanese word reiki, pronounced ray-key, is a combination of rei, meaning soul or spirit, with ki, meaning vital energy, universal life energy. The particular “lineage” I studied is called Usui Reiki, named after Japanese scholar and healer Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui developed, practiced and taught Reiki in Japan in the early part of the twentieth century. Reiki utilizes knowledge of the chakras, subtle energy centers in the body, as well as the flow of that subtle energy. It's a system of “laying on of hands” as well as the utilization of specific symbols such as Choku Rei, The Power Symbol.
It’s a natural technique which can energize and balance on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. It isn’t affiliated with any religion nor does it require or recommend any specific religious practice or orientation. As human beings we transmit and receive energy. This life force energy is present in every living being. Reiki practitioners have gone through training which gives them knowledge and direct experience which allows them to tap into and be a conduit for this universal source of energy. It is this source that determines what is needed in each individual case, whether that is clearing a blockage, establishing a better contact, or achieving a more integrated balance between the centers. This process unfolds via the open heart and hands of the practitioner whose intent is to facilitate an outcome for the highest good of the recipient.
Although I use the training and knowledge I’ve gained in my Reiki studies and practices, I do not limit my practice to strictly traditional Reiki. My intense, long term, and eclectic reading on the subject of energy/body work, as well as other spiritual subjects, has given me a firm intellectual knowledge base. My immersion on the spiritual paths of the Gurdjieff Work and Diamond Approach (click here to go to my About Deborah page to read more on this) have given me direct, personal understanding. I incorporate this understanding into astrological inquiry with my clients. Click here to see my list of recommended reading if you wish to read more about this or other topics.
