About Deborah

I am a spiritual journeyer, astrologer, Reiki Master, and underground music lover. I use the symbolic information mapped in the birth chart in combination with my spiritual understanding and direct knowledge of subtle levels of energy to assist my client's ongoing inquiry into their place in the universe and the meaning and purpose of their personal lives.
I come from an Irish Catholic background. I can remember riding in the car on the way to church when I was maybe eleven and wondering, if God created the world, then who created God, who/what came before God? Where and how did it all come from? I still remember the experience of my mind being unable to wrap itself around this question. Although I stopped participating in a conventional religious practice while still in college, I’ve been on a spiritual path since I was twenty-two. I was in the Gurdjieff Work for over twenty years until my teacher, Anne Gadol, died in 2005. Gurdjieff has been called the Armenian mystic. I consider him one of the great spiritual teachers of the twentieth century. He was not what is conventionally considered a mystic. He was a very practical man whose central focus, I think, was to assist in the creation and evolution of the human soul in service of what he called His Endlessness, and what I understand as the Absolute.
After Anne’s death I spent seven years voraciously reading metaphysical books from many traditions (see my my Books page). Eventually I was led to the Diamond Approach. The Diamond Approach is a contemporary teaching which uses the knowledge and understanding of both ancient spiritual teachings and modern depth psychological theories. Its point of view is that there is an inherent synthesis between the spiritual and the psychological domains of experience. Spiritual and psychological can be separated only in theory; Spiritual and psychological are two dimensions of the same human consciousness. Modern psychological knowledge assists in the process of understanding our own psychological experience and can open our consciousness to the deeper truths of our spiritual nature.
It was also after Anne's death that I began to study astrology in earnest. I'd been intrigued by it for some time, studying it on my own. However, I started to study (at the same time ) two very different lineages of astrology. After two and half years of intensive work, I received a Hermetician’s certificate from the Church of Light (www.light.org) and completed a private apprenticeship in evolutionary/archetypal astrology with Adam Elenbaas at Nightlight Astrology (www.nightlightastrology.com).
My inner journey in both the Gurdjieff Work and the Diamond Approach developed my inner, subtle capacities of perception, through what the Sufis call subtle organs of perception. I can at times see and sense the subtle energy in my body, in others and the physical environment. This development led me to explore energy and energetic attunement via Reiki. After a period of study and hands on learning, I became a Reiki Master. Click here to learn more about my approach to Reiki.
I have a Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo in the third house of my birth chart. This placement gave me a long term interest in the mind-body connection. An important component of the Gurdjieff Work is what is called The Movements. I was never very good at them. I trip walking down stairs if I think about how to do it (Mars widely square Mercury). I understood the body has its own intelligence. I just didn't know how to relax, let go and allow my body to move without my mind trying to control it.
Exercise is an important part of my life. My favorite class in college was weight lifting. I earned my Personal Trainer certification in weight training and then an annual re-certification in aquatics (I swam on a swim team as a child through high school, and life-guarded on summer breaks while in college as I love the water and swimming) through the Interactive Fitness Trainers of America (www.ifta-fitness.com).
My daughter Skye had been taking Taekwondo for a year at Master Yi’s Olympic Taekwondo (www.my-taekwondo.com). I decided it'd be good to do together. I’ll never be a Bruce Lee, but I did get my black belt in December 2016!
On a last autobiographical note, I’ve always loved music. Much to my surprise, my ears led me to underground music in 2012…house, techno, drum and bass, trip hop/hip hop, indie dance/nu disco just to name a few genres. I think music can help balance and heal us. Musical vibrations travel through what some physicists called the Zero Point Field. We are each dialed into, or resonate with, cosmic radio stations, vibrations of a certain frequency. The birth chart gives clues as to those frequencies. See my Zodiac Signs Music Sets page to listen to sets I've mixed for each of the zodiac signs. I only have a few of them posted here, but will be updating the page by adding previous sets, as some signs have at least three years/volumes. You can find them all on Mixcloud under my username Skyecatcher
